Process05_Tracing

Almost finished!!!!!^^==

I had been thinking that since the Chinese Coin was what
inspired me to design this font, I decided to name it: Coin

Although this task is so time consuming,
I can't help but admit I really did enjoy the process,
and learned a lot from it all.

The process to creating a font is not easy because all factors such as
structure and size have to be considered in order to create
a great typeface that is easy to read.

Process04_grid Punctuation & Numbers

These are the Numbers and Punctuations.

This is first draft for the punctuations,
I think the size is too small, so I will have to change it later.

Process03_grid low case

Here is the lower case of my font.
the shoulder is still round and the rectangle is still in the middle,
and the line has been kept as Serif.

Process02_Alphabet grid

All the characters have been drawn on the grid paper,
It took me forever to do this.

This is my upper case letters.
I made the shoulders rounded with a rectangle inside,
I also made a serif for the straight line.

I ended up changing some of the characters in the above image

Process01_draft

these are some of the sketches
I drew randomly, in an attempt to lead to other ideas.

i tried to make the font more round with a square inside.
but i thought i could use all the rectangle, like triangle, square.
so i change inside with rectangle.

Font research

I started to research on some font typefaces that were similar to what I had in mind,
and I found the following examples.

Corporate HQ by Vic Fieger

Larabie Font by Larabie Fonts

Inspiration

I found these images on the internet and i was inspired by the shapes.
Where each character had things in common, I wanted to do this
to my font as well.

I came across an old Chinese Coin and I realised that
there is a square in the middle and a circle around it.
These shapes inspired me to make my own font.

Research

I've researched a lot on typographic fonts
and here are some of them that i really like.

I realised that Script font might be hard to read,
so i tried to make my own font more like San Serif type fonts.

Sketches

These are some of my random sketches.

i only draw 3 font style, san serif, serif and script.
i quite like script font, because they are not only pretty,
also the curve is interesting.
But script font sometimes is hard to read.

i was used triangle shape to make up the font,
and also make it like a face.
